2020 First Fruits Co-Op Ministry
Guest Blogger: Jan Hayes
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are beginning to settle into the new year.
We members, at the First Fruits Farm, are looking forward to the 2020 growing season and making plans for the types of veggies we will grow this coming season, and the outreach we hope to build on this year. For 10 years we have focused on growing food for ourselves, the Seeds of Grace Food Bank and it’s Market Mentorship Project. The Seeds leadership team has decided to close the weekly food bank and offer emergency food options for those in need through a small food pantry. This means that farm members can now focus on our church family more intentionally. We have discussed how that will look moving forward.
First Fruits Mission Statement:
Loving God, one another and our community by producing and sharing wholesome foods in a Christ-centered community.
In 2019, a few of our church members/families came to the farm and harvested food for themselves. This food helped lighten the food bill total for these families along with the quality being organic and fresh.
During 2020, we hope to focus on growing and providing food for our members, church attenders, and providing fresh produce for our Saturday service meals.
We also want to find an outreach interest to partner with, using the farm as a catalyst for human connection, empowering one to cultivate purpose and belonging by growing food, and building community with each other.
I hope you will check us out! Come for a visit, see the farm and take a tour. We are interested in more AC3ers joining us as members. We are currently in a membership drive. And of course, anyone at our church, who is in need of seasonal and supplemental food for their family, please contact me.
This spring, we will be starting a small group that will meet at the farm twice-a-month. Look for that announcement on the Small Groups page to come.
