Answer:
Actually the diversity of the races is far more of a problem for the evolutionary model than for the Adam and Eve creation model. It used to be assumed that the human race might have evolved from proto human ancestors in several different locations simultaneously. So this explained why there were different races and therefore, they said, we were at different stages of evolution. Science has completely discredited this idea.
And thankfully, since the idea that some races were not as “evolved” as others was a key rationale behind ugly forms of racism in Post-Enlightenment Europe… some of which played straight into the thinking behind the Nazi regime which repeated referred to what they called “inferior races”. The horror that flowed from these assumptions about race where not only deeply unbiblical (the Bible has always taught that we are ALL connected, Acts 17:26) they were scientifically naïve and only genetic findings of the information age would refute them. What we’ve found is that homo sapiens exhibit almost zero drift at a genetic level and therefore, we are very, very young as a species, relatively speaking. And the Bible has always said, that we showed up last of all. Looking at our DNA and archeological findings, scientists are concluding that the whole human race probably came from one couple in the neighborhood of 40,000 years ago. It’s called the “out of Africa” or (ironically) the “Garden of Eden” hypothesis which assumes humanity came from one clan or even one “Eve” not that long ago.
The fact is we can all interbreed, which shows no macro-evolutionary migration from one race away from another. In fact, when it comes to organ transplantation, if you are of European decent, you are just a likely to find a genetic match from someone of African decent as your own “race”. You will regularly find racial traits popping up in the “wrong” places. Like a Sudanese woman with almond, “Chinese” eyes, or a Chinese man with big “European” eyes and nose.
What then explains the racial differences? There may be some micro-evolutionary forces at play, where a certain physical trait is favored in certain climates or environments, like dark and thick skin in hot places, higher fat content and lighter skin in cold places. (Although when it comes to early man, it is possible that rather than certain climates favoring the survival of certain people, people with certain traits favored certain climates which affected migration!) Also, like with any species, once a breeding group gets geographically isolated from a main group, it will tend to narrow it’s traits down and the overall diversity in that group will be limited.
But no real “evolution” is happening here, in the sense that the races are becoming different species. Not at all. Human races come from the selection of slight genetic differences but these did not arise from Darwinian forces creating new traits through mutation and natural selection, but from preexisting genetic variation that has been built into the human gene pool from the beginning of our species.
So as with any other species, when the gene pool is opened back up again, the race loses it’s unique look and goes back to one standard “wild” type. Take dogs for example. The different breeds of dogs are no less varied than human races, but they are not “evolving” – not in the macro sense, IE. they are not becoming “non-dogs”. The differences are a result of special environmental forces that limit genetic variety – in the case of dogs, the forces limiting the gene pool are human breeders. In the case of humans, it has been geography.
So in places like America and Brazil with great ethnic diversity and with increasing amounts of interracial marriage, you notice a standard “wild type” of human is showing up more and more – or should we call them “racially ambiguous”. You see some people and they kind of look Latin or maybe East Indian? Or maybe more Asian or Mediterranean? What is their race? You can’t really tell! The point is, when the gene pool is no longer isolated by geography and ALL humans mix again, the races will simply disappear. Our differences are quite literally skin deep. We are all long lost brothers and sisters according to science and the Bible has been saying this all along.
